Joan Gadsby
Joan Gadsby's book titled "Addiction by Prescription" details why she was initially prescribed benzos, as well as her horrendous experience getting off them. Her story highlights the vivid realities of how difficult life can become upon cessation of this class of medications. Not only does she take her readers through the process of her withdrawal, but she also identifies and educates the reader in regards to the problems associated with bringing public, political, medical and legal attention to benzo prescribing.
She has become an influential and determined advocate in the benzo-awareness campaign and details all the work that she, and others, are doing to bring light to the problems associated with benzo prescribing. Her educational background, intellect and research into the subject provides illumination into the complexities involved in getting the message out regarding the prescribing of this category of medications.
I highly recommend "Addiction by Prescription". It is well worth the read from, not only an informational/educational purpose but also, because it is written in "novel" like form. The reader has the additional advantage of being drawn into a story line of great tragedy and loss. However, her story is also one of "triumph", hope and recovery and depicts the strength and determination of a woman who fights back against, not only her doctor, but also the political systems that continue to turn a blind eye to the problems of benzo prescribing. It really is, in my opinion, a MUST READ for every benzo sufferer.
